Taylor:

Welcome to Rule Zero, a new podcast that helps you before you sit down at your next game of commander. My name is Taylor.

Shawn:

And I'm Shawn. We're two guys that have been playing before the days of pre cons and our goal is simple. We want to provide you with deck techs and actionable EDH philosophies that help you figure out the why when it comes to playing and will help you elevate that most important metric at your table, fun.

Taylor:

I played a lot of standard until I heard about EDH. My first ever commander was Surak Dragonclaw. I just wanted to cast scary creatures and swing. I still really enjoy big splashy plays, but I've realized that my Timmy side is balanced by my Johnny side. In some decks, I like big dumb creatures, and in others, I like big sick combos.

Shawn:

And I was a competitive minded, standard and modern player for a while. But I immediately became hooked to that creativity and political nature that EDH has. Outside of making those unscrupulous deals, I like ending games in one shot. It can be a janky combo, it can be a 21 power commander. But as you'll see in my preferred brews and philosophies, I consistently chase the one punch kill.

Taylor:

We've played some decks that sparked and fizzled.

Shawn:

And a few that have really popped off.

Taylor:

All while curating a playgroup that is full of friends, laughter, good food, and bad movies.

Shawn:
